Illahe Studios and Gallery is honored to display an exquisite collection of original contemporary and classic calligraphy by world class Chinese artist, Mr. Ma Weihua. Also on exhibit will be a selection of traditional bronze sculpture replicas by contemporary artists in China.
Mr. Ma Weihua will join us at the show opening on Friday, June 3rd and will give a rare glimpse of his artistry during a short demonstration. This is a unique opportunity to meet internationally known Calligrapher, Mr. Ma Weihua, and purchase an original work of art!
In June of 2010, after more than 20 years nurturing a relationship, the Southern Oregon China Connection sponsored the very successful first annual Southern Oregon – China Tourism, Investment and Education Conference. For the 2011 Conference, Southern Oregon China Connection has invited Mr. Ma Weihua, a well-known Chinese calligrapher, to attend the conference and bring examples of his current work for display and sale.
Mr. Ma’s Calligraphy is presented on different materials in various ways from paper to wood, bamboo, china and stone. Winner of many international awards, in keeping with calligraphy practice of 40 years, Mr. Ma has explored the styles of different time periods and moved forward with further development of Chinese characters
“Bronze Galloping Horse Treading on a Flying Swallow.” Created about 2000 years ago, the galloping horse is believed to be a portrayal of the "heavenly steed" of Chinese legend. It has become a symbol of Chinese tourism and a representative work that brings to the world oriental aesthetics and the time-honored cultural tradition of the Chinese nation.
